Reactions from fans, after Carolina Panthers draft Brian Burns

By Avery Jacobs

There is no question that the Carolina Panthers desperately needed to fill the defensive end position going into the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. They did just that.

With the 16th overall pick, the Panthers had one player in mind, as they selected defensive end Brian Burns, a First-Team All-ACC prospect out of Florida State University.

The pick makes Burns the first defensive end taken by the Panthers in the first round since his idol, Julius Peppers in 2002. With the selection of Burns, excitement surged the fans, players, coaches and media as they took to social media.

Among the people attending the Draft with Burns, was his brother Stanley McClover, who was thankful for the Panthers selecting him, as he wore Carolina blue in hope of Burns becoming a Panther. Nobody could have wanted him to be a Panther more than McClover, as he was selected as a seventh-round talent in the 2006 Draft and later played for the Panthers for two season.

Maybe the happiest player from the Panthers’ roster to see Burns in a Carolina uniform was Graham Gano, who has been the Panthers’ kicker since 2012. Gano also tweeted about the excitement behind the pick, being that he too played in a Florida State uniform.

“GO NOLES!!! Welcome to the team”

Panthers’ Pro Bowler, Trai Turner also expressed his feelings about Burns. With Burns now going up against NFL talent, Turner will definitely be a test for Burns going up against top offensive linemen.

Since the Panthers’ have drafted Burns following Julius Peppers retirement, there will most likely be early critics coming his way, as they seem to already have taken its course. No one can replace Peppers in most Carolina fans eyes

“Julius Peppers is 4th on the NFL’s all-time sack list. Can we please stop calling Brian Burns his “replacement?”
